The Indian Museum in Calcutta, originally named the Imperial Museum, is the largest and oldest museum in India. The Indian Museum is located on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Central Calcutta.

The museum was founded by the Asiatic Society of Bengal in 1814. It was originally established in the Asiatic Society’s building just 100 meters away from the present location. In 1875 the museum was moved to its present location.
The museum building is an example of Italian architectural style and was designed by Walter Granville, the museum’s first curator.
