Kolkata&#8217;s bustling Dalhousie Square, now renamed B.B.D. Bagh (Benoy, Badal, and Dinesh Bagh). Built-in 1777 by the British East India Company, this architectural marvel served as the office of the writers of the British East India Company, who were responsible for administrative tasks such as record-keeping and correspondence. Thomas Lyon was selected to construct it and the building was completed in 1780.<\/p><p>It underwent many changes over the next few years, which included housing Fort William College (meant to impart language skills in Hindi and Persian to name a few). Present-day Writers Building has 13 blocks and is the secretariat building of the West Bengal State Government. Till 2013 the building was also used as the office of state Chief Minister and other ministers.
